NorthStar's CEO, Rex Houlihan, is setting out on a week long sailing journey to promote the Wiarton Distric Optimist Club, an organization chosen by one of our beloved clients. When you work with us we care about what you care about.

Get a close up look as Rex Houlihan, CEO of NorthStar Express, sails over 200 miles down the Chesapeake Bay to raise money for the Skatepark in Wiarton, Canada. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 for the Wiarton District Optimist Club. We need YOUR help!! Cap'n Rex and his motley crew, Scooter & Todd set sail on May 14th and will be sailing until the 21st!

Besides the Optimist Club being a great organization, NorthStar cares about their customers and their community outreach programs. It is a small, creative, and impactful way to support our shipping partners and give back to the community.

"Heading back north tomorrow. First stop Janet's for breakfast. Awesome little village, good peeps, interesting stories." - Cap'n Rex

"We got confirmation whales play around here... of all places in the Irish pub." - Cap'n Rex

The crew enjoyed a beautiful evening and sunset on the water.

"We saw a whale launch out of the water at the southern end of Potomac River.  Huge. I did not think they came up that far. Right out of that commercial. And yes we were sober. No space aliens yet." - Cap'n Rex

"Breakfast Day 5: Hot coffee, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, followed by Mom's strawberry rhubarb pie. It is torture being on a boat." - Cap'n Rex

"Crew is down to two. Todd and the stow away were dropped off at Solomons Island." - Cap'n Rex

MAY 17TH:

"Just dropped anchor behind Sandy Point on the Great Wicomico River. Long wet day. Steaks grilling. Wine poured." - Cap'n Rex

MAY 16TH:

"Heading down the Eastern Bay with steady 15 knots.  C Street Saloon got the better part of the crew including the stow away. Heading to Solomons. Scooter's margarita is a crew favorite." - Cap'n Rex

Rex and the crew are changing course and heading to St. Micheals Island, or Soloman's.

First day on the water and already signs of stormy weather.

Scooter flying down the Severn River towards BWI airport.  If you squeeze your eyes hard enough you can just see the mast of the USS NorthStar Express!

"The boat cover is off! The sails are repaired and will be raised this weekend."  - Cap'n Rex

Scooter seeks permission for the sailing adventure from his lovely wife & kids. With their approval its all systems GO!

THE OPTIMIST CLUB

The Optimist Club is an international volunteer organization who prides themselves on being "friends to the youth." They have over 2,500 local clubs that work hard to bring out the best in children and better their community for the future. The specific Optimist Club we are recognizing is the branch in Wiarton, Canada chosen by Caframo, which is also located in Canada. The Optimist Club holds several events for the community to get involved and celebrate the youth of the community. Their newest project is raising funds to build a skate park for the kids.
